The official establishment of our county’s oldest military organization, the U.S. National Guard, takes place on December 13th and it is truly a time of celebration not only for our men and women in uniform and those who have served before them but also for every citizen that enjoys the freedom and liberties that their existence has provided them.

One of the things that makes this group so special is the fact that they are on call and prepared for duty whether it is wartime or peace. They are part of the first responder groups that come to our aid during natural disasters or other catastrophic events. These brave servicemen and women don’t know what it means to be “off duty” and they put their welfare and lives on the line in our most frightening and dangerous times. So take a moment to recognize what these selfless people do for their countrymen not only on Dec. 13th but every other day of the year as well.
